Using Tile in Your Bathroom Reno: Thinking Beyond the Basics

Bathroom renovations are one of the most common home projects, and for a genuinely stunning remodel, your tile choices will make all the difference. Rather than just using a standard tile placement in the shower, get creative with your use of tile colors and patterns to influence the size and feel of the entire room.

Focusing on the Floors

With a small space like a bathroom, sometimes you can’t add the accents you’d like on the walls or shower surround. We love using tile on the floor to add dimension and character to a bathroom without making the space seem overcrowded or overdesigned.

A bathroom renovation in such a tiny space can be tricky, but LA-based @ashleyfultz and @dmfrealty took advantage of our Scout White & Black Ceramic Tile to highlight this bathroom’s largest open space: the floor.

The patterned floor gives your eye somewhere to focus when you enter the bathroom. The rich wall color and mixed finishes add interest without adding more intricacy.

Designer @harlowhays had the same idea for making this tiny space feel bigger without sacrificing interesting design elements.

She uses our Nola Green Cement Tile on the floor to make the space seem bigger by extending it into the zero-entry shower and niche. The vibrant green color of the bathroom tile can easily be pulled into other parts of the room for cohesion and interest without adding too much weight to a small space.

Sanctuary Styling

If your bathroom tile ideas don’t include a calming sanctuary oasis, it’s time to move that idea up the list. Tile choices can make or break the balance between relaxation and personality in your space.

The shower surround and enclosure in this bathroom renovation by @jessicakoltunhome capitalizes on calming hues.

Our Casablanca Carrara Marble Subway tiles and matching pencil trim are as light and airy as you can get while still having a depth of color from the natural veining. The way the bathroom tile is placed to highlight the architectural details makes this room a destination rather than purely functional.

Having a bathroom sanctuary isn’t only about sparkling whites. Designers @buildtxsolutions and @ch_design.studio combined our Natural White 2”x6” Zellige tile with more earth-tone features to create a grounded, calming space.

Because our Zellige tile is handmade, its organic quality matches perfectly with the warm wood and patterned floors. We can just imagine how easy it would be to feel calm and reconnect with your inner peace in this stunning space.

Dazzling with Drama

Never content to confine ourselves to just one bathroom tile renovation idea, we also love the drama that a well-chosen tile color or pattern can help create in a utilitarian space.

For a bold but timeless look, black and white is always a stellar choice. This small bathroom renovation by @farmhouseish creates such a contrast that it’s dramatic beyond its size.

Our Dandelion Black & White Ceramic Tile paired with Snow White Zellige 4”x4” helps highlight the thick black trim on the shower door and the matte black faucet. We feel invigorated just looking at this space.

If we need inspiration for bathroom tile that really turns up the glam, this look from @glamournest is at the top of our list.

With so much natural light in the space, our Emerald Green 2”x6” Zellige tile adds richness to the tub and shower surrounds. Rather than extending the airy feeling of the floor and curtains throughout the entire space, a bit of dazzle and drama make a bath in here feel opulent and indulgent.

With so many different bathroom tile ideas to complement any design style, we know it won’t be hard to find inspiration for the next big renovation.
