Practical, Pretty, and Playful: Using Tile as Wedding Décor

We all have ideas for using tile in our upcoming home renovations, but we’re always looking for innovative ways to highlight tile’s versatility. The new wedding décor trend featuring tile as a centerpiece, backdrop, and even keepsake excites us for the possibilities.

Add Personality to Your Table Décor

Unique table décor is an integral part of any wedding. Your guests spend a lot of time at the table, catching up with friends and enjoying the atmosphere. Making your table functional and fabulous can be tricky, but using unique materials can be a simple way to stand out.

Table runners add dimension and color to otherwise utilitarian linens. Consider a tile runner rather than fabric. Riad’s Estrella Green Ceramic Tile would make a lovely pattern down the center of the table without taking too much space. Tile runners also help offset other table décor like vases and candles.

If you plan to use plants, choose pots to complement your tile table runner; we love the idea of terra cotta pots paired with this Terrazzo Terra 12″x12″ as a stunning wedding centerpiece with tile. You can even stack tiles of various sizes to add height to your centerpiece!

Place settings also deserve to show off your wedding style, so get creative and use decorative tiles as chargers under the plates. You can select one large piece or group several small ones together. Riad’s Crest Pink 6″x6″ Hand Painted Artisan Ceramic Tile as a group of four creates a circle image to mirror the traditional charger design. For exquisite and upscale events, choose a stunning piece of Calacatta Gold Marble 12″x12″ for the place settings at the head table.

Make a Bold Statement with Backdrops

Renting a wedding venue means you have to add your personal touch to the space — make everything from the tables to the walls shine with your personality. Adding custom tile backdrops to highlight important areas is a bold way to put your stamp on the space. Tile’s versatility means that your backdrop can be dramatic or understated to complement your other décor. We love this couple’s choice to use our Unglazed Natural Terracotta Zellige 4″x4″ as a soft backdrop for their magical day.

The tile’s warm tones make the floral arrangements stand out, and the natural look flows seamlessly with the outside landscape. Whether you incorporate tile on a whole wall or choose to feature a mosaic behind the head table, your creative backdrop will make a lasting impression.

Opt for Untraditional Signs and Cards

One of our favorite wedding tile decoration ideas is incorporating tile as signage rather than simply décor. Have a candy buffet and need labels? Use chalk pens to write on a solid-color handmade Zellige tile and place a label at each jar.

Rather than traditional table number signs, choose this hexagonal Trident Blue Ceramic Tile and write each number for a pop of interest without being too hard to read. The tile will serve a practical and decorative purpose on your tables.

We also love the idea of using small pieces of tile for place cards and table numbers. Broken bits show off even more personality! If your wedding is full of color, choose a different tile pattern for each table rather than using traditional table numbers. Guests can find their seats by matching their tile place cards with the table settings!

Make Memorable Favors and Keepsakes

Wedding tiles can serve a dual purpose – décor and keepsake. Rather than traditional wedding favors, use tiles to make coasters for your guests to use during the celebration and then take home as a souvenir. We also love the idea of having friends and family create a personalized wedding tile guest book. Each wedding guest can sign a small tile like these Snow White Zellige Hex tiles or a beautiful 2″x8″ Cement Tile. Stick with a single tile color and shape, or opt for an eclectic mix. After your wedding, create a custom tile mosaic at home to commemorate your magical, meaningful day.

We love that tile is branching out beyond home décor. Any setting that needs a personalized touch is the perfect place for stunning tiles.
