Customer Spotlight: Black Zellige Tile Was the Secret Weapon for This Kitchen Upgrade
Recently, we were thrilled to see the kitchen transformation that our repeat customers Chayce and Hannah of Home Design with Chayce and Hannah posted on their Instagram. Their stunning new minimalist-chic kitchen features Riad Tile’s glazed Black Zellige along the backsplash and other surface upgrades across the rest of the room.

Let’s look closer at the kitchen transformation and what made our Black Zellige the perfect choice for this home design project.
Chayce + Hannah’s Kitchen Renovation
Chayce and Hannah got lucky with their kitchen, which was structurally sound with updated appliances but still needed an aesthetic upgrade.
“This one had good bones, so we kept the cabinetry, appliances and countertops,” the duo says on their page. “Everything else was replaced and received a new coat of paint.”
Drab white cabinets, chrome hardware, dull gray vinyl tiled floors and a cobalt blue kitchen island were swept away in favor of freshly painted white cabinetry, light wood flooring and matte black light fixtures and bar stools. Accessories with touches of bronze, brown, gold and greenery keep the black-and-white color palette from looking too severe.
The final effect is one of elegant yet earthy minimalism with a touch of glam provided by the shiny Black Zellige 4″x4″ tile, making the backsplash the room’s focal point. The shimmering, textured black tiles provide an element of dark elegance to the otherwise simple and restrained space.
Spotlight on Black Zellige
Our Black Zellige tile is perhaps one of the most visually striking products we stock, and Chayce and Hannah used it to maximum effect in their minimalist kitchen.
Like all of our Zellige tiles, our Black Zellige 4″x4″ is a 100% authentic handcrafted product made in Morocco using traditional techniques and unrefined clay from the Fez region. Due to these raw materials and timeless techniques, the tiles feature slight color variations from tile to tile and pitting or cracking in the glaze. Because the tiles are hand-chiseled, you can also expect some size variation.
Our favorite way to use Zellige tile in a space is to cover an entire wall, floor, shower or backsplash in a single hue, creating a monochromatic shimmering effect due to the variation in texture and color of the individual tiles. This level of variation and “perfect imperfection” makes Zellige tile so alluring and popular.
Naturally, we can’t help but agree with Hannah that the Black Zellige backsplash is one of our favorite features of their new kitchen. “One of my fav upgrades in this space is the Zellige tile from our friends over at @riadtile,” she says on Instagram. “We’ve used their product so many times now and have happily dubbed them our go-to tile company!”
Many thanks to Hannah and Chayce for choosing Riad Tile for their kitchen renovation and beyond! We are honored to be so many of our customers’ first-choice resource for everything tile.
